Fun bar with friendly dancers, pretty good pours, and nice crowds. The inside can get pretty packed and hard to walk around since it is narrow and odd space. The outdoor patio is huge and a fun place to hang, but can get smoky. The restroom usually has a little show and don't tell going on. Really hot ethnic dancer with corn rows was dancing one night we were there, HOT!

I tell the younger crowd to not be deceived by the way this place looks on the inside, the music here is WAY better than any of the bars and clubs in the whole area, t heir drinks are strong and their staff is great. They have the best dancers and I love coming here before I do the other places.

It is a neighborhood bar feeling with dancers and a rustic scene. A lot of the boys and girls from the montrose scene are back and fourth from JR's to here to South beach and around the area. There isn't really a dance area. It's mostly a bar and it has a large outdoor area to hang out. Nice place though.

Hard to find anything bad to say about MMC. Friendly bartenders, strong drinks, low drink prices, fun crowd. The patio is especially nice, great place to chill out and watch the crowd on the street. I agree with the commenter below, most of the dancers are hot yet oddly cold and detached - but that seems like everywhere in Houston. It is a little dark and sleazy, but that's part of the charm and it keeps out the bachelorette party types. One of my favorite spots in H-Town!

Fun place!

Usually start at the MMC on Saturday before ending up at the Ripcord. Bartenders are friendly. Nice crowd. Drinks are reasonable. Like the music here too.

A rougher ambiance with a large rectangular bar, couple of pool tables and a barrel of roasted in-shell peanuts (free). The patio is all-weather with an elevated deck to view all the other bar's traffic. Ultimate cruising! And the drinks are great and the beer is cold. Gets crowded on weekends.

thief..i will never go in again drugs&more drugs,,flithy is the not even the beginning.not any attractive guys..get a life miners thats why they put u under the mine,, get a clue,2009..the dancers just try 2 swag..lol..never again!!!!pride or not!!! and the bartenders were very rude..wasnt this gay pride? and all money is green?my partner and i with a few gay male friends were treated horrible.we hang out with men and i never been treated that way even in a straight bar..dark and drury.rude.flithy.thanks mining for opening our eyes to how u all are up in houston..even our male friends will not be back.thats pretty bad..u should treat others how u want to be treated..

Bad news, bad people, bad enviornment altogether. One of my least recommended gay spots. Don't even bother!! The people there are trashy. It's riddled with low life drug users. I am ashamed I ever use to hang out there. That place should be banned.

It is nice to come across an unapologetic Man's Bar where the patrons are friendly and not adverse to a little aggressive behavior. I can do without the Dancers, but, other than that have always enjoyed the crowd and have never had bad service from the staff. When I return to Houston, its always on my rounds.

So, before I decided to venture away from Houston, I would frequent Mining...especially on Sunday nights. AWESOME MUSIC ON SUNDAYS!! The strippers there are HOT! There is this lil hispanic guy that calls himself "Papi" or "Geovanni" is way HOT and sooooo nice. So, yes, I would highly recommend this bar. Like the others said, it is a lil dirty, but come on now, its a bar...if you want a "fufu" environment go hang out in Midtown.

Always liked the Sunday nights at the Mine. Best nights were when Louie, Tom, Derrick, and black cowboy hat guy danced. All guys over 240 lbs and huge. Tom the towelboy could get hardon with just the wind blowing! Great music on sunday nights; some new and old dance stuff.

Depends on what your looking for

I've been to this bar many times and to tell you the truth I perfer this one more than the others in Houston. JR's is filled with fake pre madonna guys, South Beach is filled with young queens that are mostly high by some type of controlled substance, and yeah mining company is not your cleanest, well lit places but in my opinion the people there are real as far as why they go out in the first place. Face it at the end of the day we all want to go where it's a little dark and crowded and get rubbed on or groaped a little, be real there really isn't much wrong with that. I've always liked an aggressive crowd that knows what they want and knows why they are there. I think that what most people dislike about the club is that the mining company has the true loves of a gay man staring you in the face. I mean Good music, hot dancers, strong drinks, friendly people, and aggressive men that want to touch or be touched. Most of the other clubs are filled with nelly queens but the mining company is a man's club. I've been before and I'll be back that's for sure.

Piss Poor Attitudes and Service

When it comes to taking care of the visitor to Houston this bars has to be the worse I have encountered. If your disabled god help you. In most gay bars the staff have no problem giving assistance at this location the answer is GET OUT. You want a drink on a busy night with 1 bartender you might as well find a liquor store. If you want to watch a bunch of hunky str8 men dance for ya thats kewl but hell you can find that at a number of other bars in this town. The bottom line is the staff lack any type of desire to make you happy in my opinon. So take the advice of someone that travel preofessionally all over the USA and Europe, by missing this stop your not missing a thing and if you think that hunk of a man that you want to go home with is there no worry he will pop out and head over to JR's or the Ripcord before long so you'll find him.

Let me explain the title...When I say dirty, I mean it in two ways. This bar is very popular among the 35+ bear crowd. It is a Levi / Leather bar. Dirty, in the fact that you should not touch anything in the building. The bathrooms have to be a health code violation. Dirty, meaning public displays happen here. Again, it is popular and normally busy. The music is good, the drinks are strong but sometimes the odor is too. If you have extra time, check it out but do not make it a must see.

One of the staples in Montrose frequented by the levi and 30-50 crowd. The music is ALWAYS pumping and the drinks are the strongest in town. You will get you moneys worth and your drink on! Normally packed with people having a "gay ole time". However, it appears to be very dirty, the bathrooms have to be a health hazard, and you can see the bug traps everywhere. Maybe that is the atomsphere they are going for??? As long as you do not touch many things, you will have a good time. Not your twink establishment!

Bears, Leather and Go Go Boys

The Montrose Mining Company is a part of the 800 Pacific Street Bars. Across the street from JR's and South Beach (SoBe) this bar is dark and is pretty cramped on the weekends. Crusing and groping are common. The bar is home to Bears, Leather and their admirer's. There are 3 Bars, one in the main building and two on the patio, the bar has a couple of video machines as well as two pool tables. The music is always great. The mens room has a trough urinal, with mirror so you don't have to crane your neck to see the guys package standing next to you. For the pee shy, there is a single stall and as with most gay bars, a womans restroom with a single stall that is used by more men than women - even though women frequent the bar as well. Note to visitors: If you like peanuts, look for the barrels and don't worry about dropping the shells on the floor.
