Our Monday January 19th meeting will feature State Representative Ron Reynolds and Bishop James Dixon II of the Northwest Community Baptist Church/The Community of Faith. Each are renowned local and national leaders on the issue of police and judicial reforms. These reforms need to be made given the frequency of unarmed African Americans and others who are shot by police.
The recent murders of young men such as Eric Garner in New York, Michael Brown in Ferguson Missouri, Treyvon Martin in Florida have prompted a bipartisan call for real changes in America. Both Rep. Ron Reynolds and Bishop Dixon will have a real discussion with us on what needs to be done and how we can help effect such change.
Bishop James Dixon II was educated in Houston area public schools. Upon high school graduation, he was accepted and entered Houston Baptist University. He also attended Texas Southern University. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Oikodome College of Biblical Studies in 2003. James has studied extensively in pursuit of a Masters of Divinity Degree at Houston Graduate School of Theology.
When he answered the divine call to preach, he was only 15. In July, 1981, James Dixon, II was called to pastor the Greater Mount Pillow Missionary Baptist Church. The church was 109 and he was only 18 years old.
Due to rapid growth, in 1986, he successfully led the church to relocate to 1023 Pinemont Drive in northwest Houston. A new edifice was purchased for nearly 1 million dollars. The church's name was changed to Northwest Community Baptist Church/ The Community Of Faith — he was only 23 years old at the time. Amazing growth followed, and what began as a congregation of 150 became one of over 5,000.
Under his leadership, a 55-acre development, The Kingdomplex, has been accomplished; anchored by The King’s Dome, a worship, educational and multi-ministry facility. Also included are three subdivisions, an apartment complex, Dominion Plaza which is a 38,000 square ft. retail center and Dominion Park. For 25 years, the church has operated a private Christian school, Dominion Preparatory Academy.
In 2006, he was consecrated as the Presiding Bishop of the Kingdom Builders Global Fellowship, which includes over 40 churches around the United States. He has led in extensive ministry in Uganda, East Africa. He is also an active member of Global United Fellowship under the leadership of Bishop Neil C. Ellis.
