A. Marquez: Danzón No. 2
Praised for his “creative ingenuity” (South Florida Classical Review), Portuguese-American conductor Jacomo Bairos leads this colorful program of 20th and 21st century works. The concert opens with Chris Rogerson’s shining 2010 curtain-raiser, Luminosity, followed by Aaron Copland’s classic depiction of the Wild West in the Suite from Billy the Kid. Sam Hyken then gives Bizet’s popular Farandole a playfully postmodern update, incorporating influences from Hollywood, minimalism and pop music. The program concludes with the burning colors of Stravinsky’s The Firebird and the Latin rhythms of Marquez’ Danzón No. 2.
This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30am-1pm. If tickets remain at 1pm, the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. As always, open seating on the hill.
