Sax in the City Houston is the second installment of the Brio Executive Group’s Sax music series. With the amazing city of Houston as its backdrop, the event is certain to be one of the premiere jazz events of the summer.
Commanding the stage and audience as the headliner will be sensual jazz saxophonist Marion Meadows. Marion Meadows, a staple of the contemporary jazz format, has toured and recorded with such artists as Brook Benton, Eartha Kitt, Phyllis Hyman, Jean Carne, The Temptations, Michael Bolton, Angela Bofill, Will Downing, Bob Baldwin, Chuck Loeb, John Lee, Marcus Anderson, Mindi Abair, Paul Taylor, Boney James and many others.
Joining Meadows is soulful saxophonist Dean James. James has become one of the most versatile saxophonists of the Smooth Jazz genre. Having released 4 Cd’s as a solo artist, James is currently embarking on a new project set of release later this year. As James continues to demonstrate his soulful performances on both alto & soprano saxophones, his 5th solo project "GROOVYSAX", introduces a very unique blend of Smooth Jazz, R&B, Latin and Popular music that sets apart his own signature style and sound. James’ notoriety as a band leader allowed him to share the stage with Norman Connors, Jean Carne, Peter White, Bobby Lyle, Joe Sample, and Bob Baldwin along with many others.
Opening the show will be smooth jazz groove man, Vandell Andrew. Andrew has been blazing stages across the U.S. and overseas with his sensual melodies, speaker shattering grooves and a fresh sound that is all his own.
Hailing from the "birth place of jazz", the New Orleans native relocated to Dallas, Texas following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Since that time, Andrew has showed no signs of slowing down.
Andrew’s leading single "Let's Ride", from his up-tempo 5 song EP called "Turn It Up", reached #1 on the Billboard Charts and was nominated for a 2014 Soul Train Award for "Best Contemporary Jazz Performance”. ". Vandell’s Upcoming CD entitled “All for Love” is set to be released in July of 2016.
This amazing night of smooth jazz will take place on Saturday, July 23 for two shows at 5:00 PM and 8:30 PM.
A portion of the proceeds from Sax in the City Houston will benefit The Gentlemen’s Society. The program mentors young men, between the ages of 8 and 18, educating them about life choices, self-respect, and goals. Participants in the program attend weekly, structured courses that include lessons on conflict management, communication, manners, college preparation, personal responsibility and citizenship.
