Learn how to hand sew your own zine using a pamphlet stitch, discuss the history of zine culture, and help create a collaborative artwork for the latest issue of I Don't Do Boxes, a magazine exploring LGBTQ+ southern experience.
As a youth-led project that began in 2012, I Don't Do Boxes is now published and edited by a team of queer-identifying youth in North Carolina. Each issue invites contributors to submit stories, artworks, poems, and music that investigate queer culture and is distributed around the country to community spaces, book shops, and online at idontdoboxes.org. Please feel free to bring any writing, artworks, zines, music, or ideas for projects you’re currently working on to share with the group! All are welcome. All materials will be provided, however, feel free to bring any additional materials you'd like to work with (images for collage, etc.). This event is FREE and open to the public!
*A zine (pronounced “zeen,” like “magazine”) is a self-published, small circulation, non-commercial booklet or magazine, usually produced by one person or a few individuals. Zines come in all shapes, sizes, topics, and formats.
