Hickory Hollow Restaurant *

BBQ Texas style
Just outside of the Montrose district, Hickory Hollow follows the Texas tradition of bigger is better. Go hungry, leave stuffed.

Barbecue has a long and storied history in the south, and I'm always curious where the better places are. I don't mind informal, but I found this eatery (not a restaurant, not a cafe or bistro) somewhat dirty feeling, and just not a pleasant experience, food, or ambience. There are other chain restaurants in Houston that do barbecue much better.

The best chicken fried steak comes in 4 sizes. You must be starved to eat the largest! Crispy with lean meat, just like you want. Salad bar and very good BBQ, also. Very casual and inexpensive. Just off Washington, between the Heights and Montrose, south of I-10.
