Found in Translation: Amber Kaiser & Camila Labarca-Linaweaver

The Duende Art Project and BLUEorange Contemporary are pleased to invite you to celebrate the 2nd year anniversary of the Duende Art Project with the exhibition opening of "Found in Translation," a collaborative exhibition of recent works by artists, Amber Kaiser and Camila Labarca-Linaweaver. The exhibition's reception will take place at BLUEorange Contemporary art gallery at 1208 West Gray St., Houston, TX, 77019 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm on Saturday, August 27th. The exhibition will remain on view through September 28, 2016. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Found in Translation” is a visual experience taken from the perspective of artists, Amber Kaiser and Camila Labarca-Linaweaver, both together and as individuals during their global travels. With this exhibition Kaiser and Labarca-Linaweaver create a body of work inspired from the landscape, the buildings, and the people that they’ve come in contact with. The connections they create between each other and the places they visit translate into a visual compilation of personal connection with the world. Through combined various mediums, each artist’s separate pieces converge as a complete thought, as one whole. As the two exchanged stories of travel, they began to compare similarities between the cities, people, landscapes, even down to the doors, windows, clotheslines, and telephone wires. These exchanges gradually created the narrative and tone for the exhibition’s installations. “Found in Translation” embodies significant moments and feelings that stood out as past experiences were recalled from memory. The use of subtle tones and minimal imagery, fused with bold color and strong lines make up their “sheets” on a clothesline. These “sheets” visually recreate the public display of intimate belongings; in this case, shared memories. In this way, Amber Kaiser and Camila Labarca-Linaweaver symbolize the most significant aspect of travel: taking and leaving a piece of yourself in the form of shared remembrance. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Portions of each art sale from the exhibition will be donated to support the community organization Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you to our friends at Town in City Brewing Company for sponsoring the reception event with hand-crafted brews made here in Houston, TX.
