JR's

U always know what to expect when you go to JRs - a night of hip, urban, S & S (stand & stare). Sure the ubiquitous gay tude' is everywhere but so are a lot of fun-filled, down to earth folk.

Been going to Jrs since I moved here 5 years ago, this place is the meeting place for me and my friends. It has 2 sides, not 2 floors like Jrs Dallas but still fun to hang out in before you hit the dance bars. I always see cuties and out of towners, the best part is NO 18+!! This is a bar not a dance club. If you want to just chill and not have a crazy night just go with your friends and have drinks all night while you watch the hotties, music videos, or the hotties playing pool. It does need to be renovated that big screen at the front area is an eyesore (is it as old as the bar?) The floors are discolored and some areas show aging really bad. They did add more restrooms a few years back but thats the only renovation theyve done.

Ok I'll keep it real for you. JR's is a cool spot, There you can see drag shows (be sure you see Ms.Koffe). True there are a lot of boozhie wanna bs. If you go there alone the people there can seem to be in cliques but if you really want to enjoy this place it's best that you go with friends. I've been to this club on crowded nights and yes there is eye candy but I wouldn't waste my time trying to meet someone there. The crowd there is from the early 20's to mid to late 30's so there is something for everyone there to look at. This is a very well lit place so there aren't any dark corners to get your groap on, go to the mining company for that. JR's is the second gay club I had ever been to, first was Heaven but it's now named South Beach. The bartenders are fast, I like that. But like I said candy for the eyes but not for anything else. So after your finished walking upright and stuffed up have a plan B so you can let your hair down.

FYI..If you are from out of town, JR's is a must. It is the busiest gay bar in Houston if not the entire state of Texas. It is a staple in gay Texas life. It is in the heart of Montrose and in walking distance to most other gay bars. Make your own judgements but if it were not a fun place it would not still be here after 20 plus years. Could use some updating but overall, this is the bar to see the most variety of eye candy.
