Guava Lamp is lively gay bar with up-beat videos and a fun vibe with a great mix of events (MON: Live Music, Art Shows, TUE: Steak and Game night, WED: Karaoke, FRI: Country Night, SAT: Top 40 Dance).

It looks likes my opinion is in the minority here but I don't like Guava Lamp very much. The decor is actually very nice but the layout is bad. There's a huge space between the bar on the one side and tables on the other which makes someone walking in feel very exposed, like all eyes are on them. Except, they aren't, because the place is very clique-ish and it's very difficult to break into the groups of friends. The drinks are average in quality but very high in price, and the bartenders again are very clique-ish - they'd rather sit and chit-chat with their friends than, you know, tend bar. Guava Lamp is obviously going after a more upscale crowd but they need to go to F-Bar, or even Meteor, to see how it's done. I've tried GL a few times but I'm not going back there again if I can help it.

I was expecting this place to be the usual liberal establishment: * rich * white * gay * urbane * artsy * stuffed shirt types ... but was not at all. Good looking, sweet, devoted bartenders (but HIGH priced drinks) and a great crowd *any* night of the week. The only problem is that Guava seems to draw only white guys; we never see hispanic or black guys there.
